SHOUT-OUT TO SMILEY: The Sahuarita Police Department received a plaque from K9 Heroes in honor of Smiley, the department’s first comfort dog. Smiley, a black lab, works with School Resource Officer Rosalie Petty to bring soothing energy to crime victims, community members and students at SUSD. You can read more about Smiley here.
GO PAHK TH' CAH: I saw this bumper sticker on the way out of the office earlier today.
SHE'LL PROBABLY WANT A RAISE NOW: Congrats to one of our own, Jolyn Young. She's the content coordinator for our Get Out section, and she has published her first book, "Never Burn Your Moving Boxes: A True Tale of a Real-Life Cowboy Wife." This is a dyed-in-the-wool publishing effort — she was even paid an advance. Now the tough part: Getting the word out on it. I spent part of the afternoon flipping through it and can tell you it's quite a look into cowboy life — well-written, honest and, as they say, a real page-turner. Excellent work. You can get it here or call over to The Book Shop and have Dianne order it for you. Learn more about Jolyn and her family here. To our friend and colleague Jolyn: We don't know how you balance all of life's demands, but we're proud of you and this big accomplishment.
NEVER ALONE...: Jill Klaver likes to head over to the Arid Garden when she needs a little solitude. On Saturday, she had some company. Never been to the Arid Garden? Here's an intro and a map. Don't miss the video of gardening columnist Mary Kidnocker talking about saving water in the garden. The garden had its start in 1986.
LOVED THIS SHOT: Steve Piepmeier took this shot a couple of weeks ago. What a great way to illustrate the rain!
